Niconico Chokaigi 2020 Cancelled, To Be Reborn As Niconico Net Chokaigi 2020
At 4:05 PM (JST) on March 11, 2020, the official Niconico Chokaigi Twitter account tweeted some bad – but not entirely unexpected – news to would-be attendees:
“Due to the spread of COVID-19 infection, we have decided to cancel Niconico Chokaigi 2020 to protect the safety of all attendees, performers, and related personnel.”
“Please see our official site for information on how to get refunds on ticket purchases and crowdfunding donations. chokaigi.jp“
However, the somber news was quickly followed by another major announcement:
“Niconico Net Chokaigi 2020 Confirmed!! This year, Niconico Chokaigi will be held online for 8 days from April 12 through 19!”
“We aim to turn it into Japan’s largest ever online festival, bringing together all of Chokaigi’s popular booths, online content, canceled concerts and more! Expect details to be announced by late March! #ネット超会議2020“
While cancellation of the offline event will no doubt come as a blow to many who were planning on attending, the followup news is a major turn of events for fans outside Japan who can soon experience Chokaigi completely online!
