Miku and Rin Special Toonize Variations Revealed!
Back in February, FuRyu announced a new line of prize figures called “Toonize“. They were going to start with Miku, then follow up with Rin and Len, and finish it with Luka for now. The painted prototypes of Miku and the twins were revealed during Winter WonFes along with release dates. Now we have even more information on these figures: It appears each will have two different color variations!
The Variations
While we can’t confirm it since only Miku and Rin have been revealed, it appears each Toonize character will have two variations: Basic Color and Cartoon Color. The basic version is less saturated and, in Rin’s case, has a slightly different palette outside of the saturation change.
Toonize Miku
Release Month: May 2020
As mentioned before, the main difference between the “Basic Color” and “Cartoon Color” variations of this figure is the saturation. The color palette remains more or less the same using cheerful, cartoony colors that follow Miku’s basic color scheme. However, the “Basic Color” version isn’t as vivid as the “Cartoon Color” version. The latter really does look like it could have come straight from a children’s cartoon but both would make cute additions to anyone’s collection!
Toonize Rin
Release Month: May 2020
The differences between “Basic Color” and “Cartoon Color” in Rin are much more noticeable. The “Basic Color” variant follows a more traditional Rin color palette with blue eyes, yellow and white clothing, and yellow hair with normal shading and white accents. She also has a soft yellow ribbon in front of her trademark white bow.
The “Cartoon Color” variant on the other hand has green accents where the traditional shading is on the “Basic Color” variant as well as green eyes. Her soft yellow ribbon in front of her white bow is replaced by a pastel neon green one and the parts that were grey on the “Basic Color” version are now a crisp black.
The two variations offer very different versions of Rin which is definitely an interesting take. Since Rin doesn’t get nearly as many figures as Miku, these two figures are bound to sell out rather quickly.
How to Get Them
These figures are prize figures so they’ll be available in crane games in select arcades. Unfortunately, no one is really going to be traveling to Japan anytime soon and with the current situation, it’s not even a guarantee that arcades will be open in May. You can always check websites like Mandarake for second hand purchases.
At the moment, Tokyo Otaku Mode has Luka for pre-order set to release in November. However, there’s no word on Rin or Miku.
Do note that Japan has ceased all regular shipping to the United States at this time until further notice and it may follow suit with other countries. DHL and FedEx are still available from select sellers but EMS, Registered and Unregistered SAL, Airmail, and all other Japan Post services other than Surface Mail are discontinued for the US.
