Saying Goodbye to MikuColle
There have been no shortage of Miku-themed mobile games that have been released, with recent additions being that of Mikulogi and Hatsune Miku Tap Wonder, and more games being planned for release soon, such as Project SEKAI and Hatsune Miku Amiguru Jump. But the best of all so far, in my opinion, would arguably be MikuColle.
Unfortunately, MikuColle shut down its servers after 5+ years, making it stand out among the many other Vocal Synth mobile games that have existed.
The characters in-game were drawn by 7:24/Inukai, a well-loved artist whose work has been featured as menu items for the recent Sakura Miku cafe, and even on cosmetics! Their beautifully charming art-style made the game adorably soft and loveable, especially since they introduced a variety of new characters, such as our guide in-game, Melopi (shown in the bottom right hand image):
And with the final closure of the game, Inukai released these arts, reminding us of just how much we love their portrayals of the piapro characters:
And with this, there was also news of an unofficial memorial book for MikuColle!
Inukai asked if they could make a doujinshi fan guidebook for MikuColle featuring a variety of previously unreleased artwork, including main visuals, enemy characters, and much more! There were mentions of them going to an event called 「ボーマス」(“Bomasu”), the nickname for “THE VOC@LOiD M@STER” event, which has been moved to November 15th at Ikebukuro Sunshine City…. so it’s believed that the doujin work will be released there! I definitely wanna get my hands on one if I can.
Since MikuColle was one of my favourite games, I thought that I can also add a couple of bits here about my favourite parts of the game! I started playing at the end of 2018 around the time of MIKUEXPO in Europe, and it was actually the first gacha game I have ever played!
Cards
In total I have collected about… five hundred different cards in the game, with a reasonable amount of SSR+s and SSRs! Here are some of my favourites that I got:
… and here are some that I wish I’d have got:
I’ll admit that I never knew that there were so many Shiteyan’yo cards existing! They’re so…. bizarre. I love how this was a game which celebrated so many artists in the Vocaloid community, and made sure to add credits for each one on their respective cards!
As well as this, I have managed to collect a reasonable amount of clothing items for the piapro characters! My favourites would definitely be….
While some of the items I think are pretty cool (but didn’t get) are….
Having your character running along, hitting enemies with a giant pocky stick or Christmas tree would’ve been brilliant! Although I was really happy to get the Rimokon costumes for Rin and Len!
For a game which lasted a good five years, MikuColle certainly amassed an amazing collection of events, clothing items and cards! If you’re curious about what other cards and whatnot were available, check out the MikuColle Wiki (EN) too!
I’m missing the game a lot, and compared to many of the smaller Vocaloid-themed games which have existed (and will exist in the future), I have to say that this will probably remain my favourite forevermore. The fact that ALL of the characters were treated equally throughout the whole game made a HUGE change to the norm of the VOCALOID world, and unfortunately since most other games focus almost entirely on Miku, we’ll probably never see a game quite as brilliant again. I’ll hold my memories of the game dearly, and certainly won’t forget this gem of a mobile gacha game.
Thanks for reading my sad MikuColle lament, and I hope that I’ll see you again for some info on some more Vocal synth game news soon!
