Snow Miku x Jingisukan’s Jin-kun x Koakkuma & Akkuma Cafe Announced!
The newest cafe collaboration for Hatsune Miku and the gang is coming this month, courtesy of Animate Cafe and Kawai-ya! But what’s so special about this one? This cafe is a collab with Jingisukan’s Jin-kun and co., as well as Koakkuma and Akuma! Although the likes of Jingisukan and friends and Koakkuma and Akuma aren’t technically affiliated, they are all mascots from Hokkaido! This whole cafe collaboration is a brilliant representation of the lesser known specialties of Hokkaido, so let’s see what else it has to offer us!
(Check out our “Links” section at the bottom of this article to find out more about the world of Jingisukan’s Jin-kun and Koakkuma!)
Food menu
-In the first row on the left, you can see the Snow Miku and Jingisukan’s Jin-kun’s “Lots of negi! Jingisukan Zangi-don”. This meal is a donburi (bowl of steamed rice with toppings), based on the dish “Okhotsk abashiri zangi don”, a specialty of Abashiri town in northern Japan. It contains salmon and a mountain of negi (spring onion) on top, as seen in the image above! (¥1000)
-To the left of the donburi is KAITO and Jingisukan’s Gisu-kun’s “Addictive! Shiokara Jaga-butter Toasted Sandwich”! “Shiokara” is a type of paste made of salted, fermented seafood, while “Jaga-bata” is a term coming from “Jagaimo” (potato) and “butter”, making it a hot buttered potato! (¥950)
-Furthest right in the top row is the MEIKO and Jingisukan’s Kan-kun’s “Full of femininity! Salmon roe and cream cheese cold pasta”. (¥950)
-A very fancy-looking dish, first in the second row we have Kagamine Rin and Koakkuma’s “Vividly coloured! Temari sushi”. Temari sushi are beautifully adorned sushi, typically served for the sake of special events like Hinamatsuri! The “temari” in the name is derived from the inspiration for the dish- decorative toy balls for children called temari! Also served with this dish is a bowl of miso soup. (¥950)
-Fifth on the list of food is the Kagamine Len and Koakkuma’s “A tad spicy! Miso butter corn stamina ramen“. It looks like there’s a little Len and Koakkuma swimming inside the broth too! (¥950)
-Finally, for the savoury food, we have Megurine Luka and Matagi no Momiji-chan’s “Mochimochi! Amanatto bean and mochi meal”. “Amanatto” are sweet red beans, and they’re used for the sake of making red bean rice in this dish! Also included is a bowl of miso soup and vegetables on the side. (¥950)
-Now onto the desserts! First on the left is the “Snow Miku and Jin-kun both love it! Fluffy cotton candy anmitsu“. “Anmitsu” is typically a combination of bean jam, agar cubes, boiled beans, fruit pieces and syrup, and you can see that the cotton candy here is covered in this! The syrup appears to be in a separate pot so that it can be poured on top. (¥800)
-The middle dessert is the “Containing Gisu-kun-like tapioca(?) KAITO blue kakigori“. Kakigori is Japanese shaved ice, and if you consider Gisu-kun’s design, the tapioca does actually look like his woolen coat!
– To wrap up the desserts section is the “Len-kun and Akkuma-sama’s recommendation! Blue honeysuckle parfait“. Blue honeysuckle is a fruit which grows almost exclusively in Hokkaido, and is said to be the fruit of longevity. Because of its rarity, trying a dessert with this as a flavouring is too good to miss, surely?
Drinks menu
-In the top left hand corner of the drinks menu is the “Snow Miku and Jingisukan’s Jin-kun’s Blue soda float“. (¥650)
-To its left is the “KAITO and Jingisukan’s Gisu-kun’s Ice candy x cola” drink. (¥650)
-Next is the aptly red-coloured “MEIKO and Jingisukan’s Kan-kun’s shiso soda“. Shiso juice is a popular summer drink in Japan, and it’s made from red shiso leaves! (¥650)
-Covered in what appears to be pink heart-shaped sprinkles, “Kagamine Rin and Koakkuma’s separate orange tea” certainly looks cute! (¥650)
-Following a similar concept, “Len and Akkuma’s blueberry and banana separate smoothie” also has separate layers for both flavours, creating a very aesthetic drink! (¥650)
-“Megurine Luka and Matagi no Momiji-chan’s shiratama strawberry latte” even has a bow on top! The “shiratama” inside are rice flour dumplings, which can be vaguely seen in the menu image. (¥650)
-A popular choice of beverage even outside of Japan, “Hatsune Miku’s matcha flavoured latte” features a negi image on top, most probably created with a stencil and matcha powder. (¥650)
-My personal favourite from this list would probably be “Rabbit Yukine’s kurogoma latte”! “Kurogoma” is black sesame seed, and has a sweet, nutty flavour which works well as drinks and even ice cream. (¥650)
Note: all prices above in both the food and drinks menus include tax.
Animate Cafe Gratte – Graphic Latte art also available!
