MIKU EXPO 2021 Online Song Contest: Share Your Voice
If you’ve been hankering for a time and place to share your new, original track sung by Hatsune Miku, have we got news for you!
The organisers of MIKU EXPO 2021 have announced a contest where you can submit a track sung by Hatsune Miku. The song chosen as the Grand Prize winner will be performed at the 2021 Online Expo after the stretch goal for the Crowdfunding Project is reached.
The Crowdfunding Project has not started yet – it is set to begin mid-November. To keep up with information on the CrowdFunding Project, be sure to check out the official Hatsune Miku social media pages which can be found at the bottom of this article!
Prizes available
Besides the satisfaction that comes with sharing a new song worldwide, the Grand Prize winner will have their song included on the HATSUNE MIKU EXPO 2021 Online Crowdfunding SONOCA cards! They will also receive a ¥100,000 JPY voucher to purchase music production products from SONICWIRE, which will certainly enhance your music-creation ventures! And last but not least, the Grand Prize winner will also receive a variety of Hatsune Miku and Piapro Character goods (one can only hope this may include figures.)
There will also be two Runners-up selected!
Prizes for Runners-up include having their song on the HATSUNE MIKU EXPO 2021 Online Crowdfunding SONOCA Music Download Card. They will also receive a ¥30,000 JPY voucher to purchase music production products from SONICWIRE, and a variety of Hatsune Miku and Piapro Character goods (we still hold out hope for getting some figures as prizes.)
※SONOCA cards are music cards which allow you to download music onto your phone! Since its inception, there have been many different desings of SONOCA cards, making them a cool, collectible piece of merch, as well as a download service pioneered by Crypton Future Media! Submission rules
As always, there a few submission rules. We have chosen to sum up the rules and guidelines succinctly here but we encourage any participant to read and to understand the guidelines and rules fully before entering the contest. They can be found here, and are in Japanese and English.
- Songs submitted must feature Hatsune Miku, and Hatsune Miku only.
- The song must be previously unpublished and have no ties to any publishers.
- The song can be done in any language, in any genre, and must be between 3-4 minutes in length.
- Submissions must be uploaded during the contest period—any songs uploaded before the contest started or submitted after the deadline has passed are not permitted.
- All entries must be submitted via Soundcloud; please do not allow downloads.
- Any winning submissions may be edited for the sake of usage with concerts etc.
- The rights to the Grand Prize submission will be transferred to Crypton Future Media once chosen. Each time the winning work is used, a complimentary royalty payment may be made by Crypton to the artist at Crypton’s discretion, such payment not to be construed as usage rights.
- Entrants under 18 years old must get permission from a parent/guardian in order to participate.
General contest info
Submissions are due on Monday, November 30th, at 11 am (JST), and can be submitted from October 29th 2020 at 11:00 (JST). Winners will be contacted within 3 days of the closing date of the contest, and will have a maximum of 3 days to reply for their win to be secured. If a winner should not reply within this time slot, their win will be invalidated and passed on to someone else. Therefore, it is paramount that you enter your contact email address correctly when submitting your song.
It’s not yet known when the results will be announced, and all results/prizes will be dependent on the situation regarding the crowdfunding. We will make sure to update you when we find out more information!
If you or your friends have had an idea for a song rolling around for some time, now is definitely the time to act and create something really cool! The other fun thing about having the contest online, is that if you’re especially shy about showing your music to others, you have some anonymity.
