What is The VOCALOID Collection?
The VOCALOID Collection (hereafter “VocaColle”) is a three-day long voice synth festival, celebrating creators and fans in the vocal synth community with countless new song introductions, video uploads, livestreams, and even a live concert to enjoy! The event was born out of the culture surrounding VOCALOID music on Niconico, and the characters like Hatsune Miku who represent those voice synths. Anyone who has ever watched and enjoyed the VOCALOID live concerts from Niconico Cho Party, and VOCALOID Fes from earlier this year would know the premise behind it all. VocaColle even uses the same main visual created by 八三 / Hachi San for VOCALOID Fes!
According to its official description, VocaColle was created as a spin-off from Niconico Net Chokaigi 2020. It aims to be the ultimate online and offline event celebrating VOCALOID culture and creators all over the globe! Of course, despite its name, VocaColle isn’t just about VOCALOID, but also about UTAU, CeVIO, Synthesizer V, VOICEROID, NEUTRINO, NT and all other singing voice synth engines, their music, and their characters and creators who have all become part of the ever-expanding fan community.
The goal of VocaColle is to create what they call a “場所/basho (place),” a haven for all creators and fans to discover one another’s works, and become closer as one unified fan community.
From December 11th through the 13th, the 2020 Winter edition of VocaColle will be held. During those three days, fans can enjoy numerous new song uploads and other projects, and even a live concert on the 12th. Read on for more information on each!
Creator Support
The first concrete details about VocaColle were announced through a Niconico Info livestream that can be watched by following the link below:
https://live2.nicovideo.jp/watch/lv328206512
During the livestream, it was announced that creators can participate in VocaColle by tag locking their uploads with the tag “ボカコレ2020冬” on Niconico. Their new songs and videos will then be featured on the official VocaColle website for fans to check out. Those fans, in turn, can support their favorite creator by paying a fee and advertising their videos on Niconico Ads. The method for doing so is outlined here (Japanese).
The top supported videos will then be entered into VocaColle rankings, separated into the following categories that their creators can choose by including the additional tags:
- VocaColle TOP 30 Ranking (for original songs)
Tag: ボカコレ2020冬 - VocaColle REMIX Ranking (for remixes using song stem data)
Tag: ボカコレ2020冬REMIX - VocaColle ROOKIE Ranking (for songs uploaded by creators who debuted as VOCALOID producers within the last 2 years)
Tag: ボカコレ2020冬ルーキー - VocaColle “Odottemita” Ranking (for dance videos made to VOCALOID songs)
Tag: 踊ってみた - VocaColle “Utattemita” Ranking (for videos of human singers covering VOCALOID songs)
Tag: 歌ってみた - VocaColle “Ensou shitemita” Ranking (for videos of people performing VOCALOID songs with musical instruments)
Tag: 演奏してみた
[Details of each ranking can be found here (Japanese)]
Upload period: 12:00 AM (JST) on December 11 ~ 8:00 PM (JST) on December 13
The top entries in each ranked category will be determined by the amount of views, comments, and favorites that they get, and will be revealed in livestreams held by the VocaColle staff.
Creators will be given most of the money that fans paid to advertise them, and the top entries in each of the above categories can win additional monetary rewards, or even the chance to perform at the next Niconico Chokaigi (in the case of top rankers of the Odottemita category)!
The chart below explains the ideal behind the system: creators upload the songs and videos that they make -> Fans discover and enjoy those songs and videos -> Fans show their support for the creators by advertising them and paying the fee for doing so -> Creators receive and use the money to create even better works -> And the cycles continues anew!
Another way that you can support your favorite artists and get their videos more views is by tweeting their video URLs with one of the following appropriate hashtags:
- #ボカコレ新作投稿 (for original songs)
- #ボカコレREMIX投稿 (for remixes)
- #ボカコレルーキー投稿 (for songs made by rookie creators who have been VOCALOID producers for less than 2 years)
The staff can then retweet your tweets on their official Twitter account when VocaColle is live, and give your artists of choice a boost to their fame!
You can find the Creator Support page from the official VocaColle website here! Make sure to support your favorites during the event!

To do this, fans will need to make their own MyList of voice synth song videos either directly on Niconico, or through NicoBox. They can then share the URL for their MyLists to Twitter with the hashtags #私のプレイリスト and #ボカコレ, and a comment about the songs. The VocaColle organizers will then check out all the tweets made, and pick their favorite playlists of videos to share on their website! Will yours get chosen?
