CeVIO AI KAFU Now Available for Pre-Order

Fans of Kafu and CeVIO, the day has finally come! ARTIFICIAL SINGING SYNTHESIZER KAFU (hereafter just “KAFU”) is now available for pre-order, and is scheduled for release on May 31, 2021 July 7, 2021! Read on for details on where to pre-order her, and all that has been revealed and promoted for her up to now!

Who is KAFU?

KAFU is the CeVIO AI voice bank created from the voice of famous VTuber, Kaf. She is being produced by KAMITSUBAKI Studio in collaboration with the CeVIO Project. You can visit her official site here.

Her Japanese name is written in kanji as 可不. The 可 comes from 可能性 (kanousei) meaning “potential/possibility,” while the 不 comes from 不可解 (fukakai) meaning “mysterious/enigmatic.” Her name thus carries both the sense of wonder and mystery, as well as the sense of limitless possibilities.

Furthermore, her name is stylized in English lettering as “KAFU” which comes from her voice provider’s name, Kaf, and the letter U in “YOU.” So in a way, KAFU is like the version of Kaf who belongs solely to ‘you’ to create your own kind of music.

Survey

While she was still in development, KAFU’s creators put out a survey for fans to take after listening to some voice samples. Fans could vote for which voice type they like the most and would like KAFU to have! The samples can still be heard below:

After the survey period ended, results showed that fans overwhelmingly voted for Type A, which perfectly reproduced Kaf’s unique voice in vocal synth form!

However, despite the survey results, KAFU’s creators went with Type B as KAFU’s finalized voice. That was because Kaf herself requested it.

The reason for Kaf’s decision was because, with the power of CeVIO AI, KAFU Type A resembled Kaf a little too much. To understand why this is problem unique to KAFU, consider the fact that unlike most other voice synth characters, KAFU’s voice provider herself is also a virtual artist, a VTuber. That means both Kaf and KAFU will be singing songs uploaded online, and both will appear in 3D hologram form in live concerts.

So they will be entertaining fans in various similar ways. And if they share the exact same voice and similar character designs, there was worry among some fans that KAFU could end up competing with Kaf in the same virtual singer field, or possibly even replace her.

Therefore, Kaf decided that KAFU should have voice Type B from the above video, similar to her own voice, but still different enough to be discernable. After all, Kaf wants to see KAFU grow and succeed as well, and she can best do that by being her own entity instead of a carbon copy of Kaf.
