One of the first one’s came from みゆはん / Miyuhan, confirming that she will serve as the show’s host and interview the producers.
Then just two days prior to the pilot episode, it was revealed that the producer who will be interviewed would be DECO*27!
Our writer, Marumain, was able to watch the episode, and will provide a loose summary of the questions asked and content shown.
※Important note: all translations of the interview below are completely unofficial
First, Miku appears to introduce the purpose of the show:
Miku: “I’m Hatsune Miku! What do VOCALOID producers think about as they make songs for us? I’d like for them to tell us! So then, NHK MUSIC presents Yakou Ongaku, start!“
Narrator: “Yakou Ongaku: VocaloP 5 min. Today’s guest is DECO*27.“
DECO*27: “Cute!” *laughs* “That was super cute!”
Narrator: “A superhero in the VOCALOID world, DECO*27, consistently one of the top-reigning VOCALOID producers ever since he made his debut in 2008. His songs are filled with love for Hatsune Miku, and almost all of them have garnered over a million views. His latest song upload, ヴァンパイア / Vampire, chalked up about 6,400,000 views after only two months. It would not be an exaggeration to call him a ‘Super VocaloP!’“
Narrator: “It has been 13 years since DECO*27 heard his first VOCALOID song that left a big impact on him”
Miyuhan: “What was your first encounter with VOCALOID music?”
DECO*27: “It was Packaged by kz back when I was a second-year college student. I still remember how amazing I thought the voice was when I first heard it, and the impact it left on me.”
Miyuhan: “How did you feel when you made your first upload?“
DECO*27: “I was super nervous. After I decided ‘Alright, let’s upload this thing!’, I hesitated for about a whole hour before I finally clicked the upload button.”
Miyuhan: [laughs]
DECO*27: “Even now, my heart races whenever I upload something.”
Miyuhan: “That’s something else.”
DECO*27: “Yeah, I get super nervous. But after I upload something I made, there is always a huge number of listeners who really enjoy it. I like to imagine their joyful looks as I write a song.”
Miyuhan: “What do you find so appealing about Hatsune Miku?”
DECO*27: “Her voice!”
Miyuhan: [laughs] “Her voice, you say!”
DECO*27: “Yes, and I mean it in a good way. Life is full of craziness, but through her voice, life can be guided towards a better path by changing how we think about life as a whole, by giving us the zeal we need, and much more. It’s really amazing.”
Then viewers were introduced to another features of Yakou Ongaku: getting to listen to a new version of one of the featured producer’s most famous songs!
For the first episode, it was a re-arrangement of アンデッドアリス / Undead Alice created by Teddyloid!
Miyuhan: “What kind of arrangement did it end up being this time?”
DECO*27: “Teddyloid does re-arrangements for a lot of my songs, but I never once said to him ‘Please arrange me it this way.’ What I ask him to do instead is to arrange the songs in a way that sounds fresh and new to the listeners, making them think ‘Is this a whole different song?'”
You can listen to アンデッドアリス 夜光音楽バージョン / Undead Alice, Yakou Ongaku Version here on NHK’s official YouTube channel below, which Teddyloid calls “a new way of looking at Undead Alice.”
Then DECO*27 was asked how he felt about the program’s theme song, Odo, which he wrote the lyrics for.
DECO*27: “I think it’s a super cool song, and I pushed out the lyrics for it in about three to four hours.”
Miyuhan: “Whoa, that’s fast!”
DECO*27: “It’s because I had a clear image for the song in mind that I was able to push them out so fast.”
Miyuhan: “What does VOCALOID music mean to you?”
DECO*27: “Umm…life… life…I guess life!”
Miyuhan: “Your whole life?”
DECO*27: “Yes. I will always believe that VOCALOID music has led me down the right path in life. It has truly made my life more enjoyable and worth living. Thirteen years ago, I was on the receiving end of the impact left by VOCALOID music, so now, if I can convey the magic of VOCALOID music to others through my songs, then that would give me the greatest happiness.”
And thus concludes this very rare and heartfelt look into the life of a famed VOCALOID producer! Those with NHK+ accounts can watch the interview online here where it will be available until the next episode on May 17th at 12:35 AM (JST).
Speaking of the next episode of Yakou Ongaku, it has been revealed that Neru will be next up to the plate! Look forward to their interview next!
