Tsuina-chan x Tenhama Head Mark Illustration Contest Results
For those of you who’d associate the name Tenryu Hamanako Railroad (“Tenhama”) and vocal synth Otomachi Una, you wouldn’t be wrong! But as we mentioned in our announcement of this competition back in May, now it’s VOICEROID Tsuina-chan’s turn to grace the front of one of the local trains in the area!
The contest in question was a so-called “head mark illustration contest”, where budding artists were asked to draw something which could be used to adorn the large, round plate-like things (headmarks) attached to the front of trains. And here we have the results, so check below to see who Tsuina-chan chose, and what she thought about the designs.

Advance access to hear the planned voice samples for the project
But first off, we found out that ALL participants in the contest would receive a selection of pre-recorded voice lines from Tsuina-chan, way before anyone else! All the voice lines are fittingly railway-themed, and can be used for your own projects as you wish! Click on the Tweet below, and scroll down to find a preview of all the voice lines for yourself:
However, it is mentioned that the voice lines contain the word 「電車」/ “densha” (train: electric) in them. So please be careful if you want to use the voice lines for a project related to Tenhama, since Tenhama uses diesel trains as opposed to electric ones, known as 「列車」/ (ressha) – yes, the distinction is important!
Anyone who participated in the contest received the files via Twitter DM on June 13th, which is actually really lovely of the organisers, and getting free gifts will most certainly give fans some motivation to apply for any future contests too!
All participants have also had their name/nickname listed on the official Fantia blog (unless they specified they didn’t want this), and some even might have their illustration used as gacha illustrations in the Tsuina Point Project.
The overall winner(s)
At first there was supposed to be one overall winner and two runner-ups, but Tsuina-chan had a hard time choosing, so we ended up with 3 runner-ups:
Runner-up #1: 名名肆 / nanashi
Comments from Tsuina-chan:
This illustration is a super high-quality piece which really captures a sense of the local area, and respresents me really well. It’s a masterpiece that incorporates my “front” and “back” demons and Dixon* super well too ‼️ξ😆ξ
*Dixon/Dickson is the name of her red mask, something which is based on the masks worn by real-life “demon hunters” performing the ritual of “tsuina”- a precursor to the festival known as Setsubun in Japan, which you may have heard of.
Runner-up #2: みつみねぐち / Mitsumineguchi
Comments from Tsuina-chan
It’s an amazing artwork which grabs your attention ASAP! 🌟
It’s a really wonderful, refreshing design. 💕ξ😆ξ
I was actually kinda interested in it already since I saw the rough draft that was posted a lil’ while ago… ❣️
Runner-up #3: 絃弥(イトヤ)/ Itoya
Tsuina-chan’s comments:
I can’t find fault with this one- it’s just so wonderfully super cute, ya know? 💕ξ😆ξ
If we were gonna have two headmarks, I’d choose this one to be the second, no doubt about it…!!!
The smiling face they drew for me is just too brilliant. 💕💕////
And now for the main, overall winner which will be made into a head mark…
The main winner: ぺるこ / Peruco !
Tsuina-chan’s comments:
A high quality, cute, cool artwork which is just majorly awesome overall~‼️ ξ😊ξ
As we mentioned in our previous article, the runner-ups are said to win Tsuina-chan’s VOICEROID product OR a set of Tsuina-chan goods, while the overall winner will have their entry illustration used as the head mark for a Tenhama Line train from July 7th through September 5th, 2021, AND Tsuina-chan’s VOICEROID product, plus a set of Tsuina-chan goods!
Special mentions
Also featured on Tsuina-chan’s Fantia blog post are some “special mentions”, all of whom will win a copy of Tsuina-chan’s 10th voice drama set!
Award for “sharpness” (of the design) : 時雨1213
Award for “cuteness” : たまカルシウム / Tama Calcium
Award for “design I want to use elsewhere at some point” : 春部かすけ / noura kasuke
Award for a beautful design: ごいみな / goimina
“Kodomo no Kuni”* award : カワイノスキー / kawaiinosky
- I believe that the award was thus named because the artstyle is similar to that used on the official website for children’s amusement park “Kodomo no Kuni” in Japan.
One fan actually remarked how, since the head marks are round, looking at the entries made them think that some designs would be good as coasters or even can badges!
..and Tsuina-chan herself seemed to like the idea, so you never know, we might be seeing some future merch made out of these designs in the near future!
And that’s a wrap for the most recent illustration contest from Tsuina-chan! Keep your eyes out for further news of the headmark being created and installed, and then we can find out exactly how to go and see it in real life for ourselves (and potentially enjoy a cool train ride throughout Shizuoka if we’re lucky!)
