Magical Mirai 2021 – Bringing the Fairytale Magic This October
※All translated content on this page is unofficial
While the excitement of June’s MIKU EXPO may have faded a little bit for us fans stuck at home due the pandemic – or for fear of reintegrating with society at large (100% totally not me) – Miku and VOCALOID music has helped make time at home more fun. And now we have another big event to look forward to, as details of Magical Mirai 2021 are being revealed bit by bit!
What is Magical Mirai?
Mirai itself literally translates to “future” so the event title would translate to “Magical Future”. I like to imagine this event as a glance into the future of VOCALOID using a magical, whimsical frame.
Magical Mirai is an event that has been held for nine years in Tokyo and Osaka, and features a 3DCG live concert of Miku (much like MIKU EXPO) and also includes an exhibition where many of the more creative aspects of Hatsune Miku can be enjoyed. For a sense of what the event was like last year, one can check out a link provided here.
KAITO 15th Anniversary
This year actually marks KAITO’s 15th anniversary, and it was confirmed that Magical Mirai 2021 will have a special KAITO feature, and there would be a KAITO 15th anniversary theme song incoming!
The said theme song has now been released as of writing, so you can check it out in the section(s) below.
But we all know someone as handsome as KAITO is truly ageless.
I imagine there will be a dedicated section of the exhibition to KAITO fan-art and tributes. The concert may show other friends celebrating, and he may sing some of his signature songs. It is certainly something to look forward to!

Main Visual
Each year of Magical Mirai also has a unique theme to add character to the event. This year’s theme is called “Fairy-Tale Fantasy”.
Artwork of Miku’s costume by 左 / Hidari (Left) has been presented on the website with included outlines. Miku’s outfit seems to personify a flower or a fairy with speaker’s included in her pigtails, and flowers lining the inside of her skirt. It actually reminded some of us of Sakuya-hime, “the blossom-princess”.
The other characters have had their designs presented as well:
KAITO seems to personify water with princely motifs, including a crown and a white suit. Part of his signature scarf turns into furl of water. It looks as though his design has been inspired by the likes of Suijin or Neptune, what with the trident-like crown on his head.
MEIKO looks elegant in a dress with plumes of fire coming out of the collar. This is mirrored in her hair as well, giving off a look reminiscent of Suzaku – the Vermilion Bird, one of the four symbols of Chinese Constellations.
Luka here looks to be personifying light, almost like Amaterasu! She is wearing a striking veil and has a low, pink cape that comes out to surround her waist like wings. The outfit is adorable and has a softer overall look compared to typically: she is oftentimes portrayed in more mature, graceful looks.
Len seems to be lightning, with strikes fizzing out from his hair and a floating line of speakers of behind him, reflecting the look of Raijin, “the god of lightning, thunder and storms in Japanese mythology and the Shinto religion” (also known as Namrukami, among other names).
Rin on the other hand seems to portray wind in the form of a small butterfly or moth. Her signature hairband forms antennae and she wears a small cape with wings. If we’re thinking that the other designs are references to other mythological beings, perhaps Rin’s design was inspired by the silkworm moth yokai, also known as Shinchuu (trigger warning: depictions of blood).
With all of the costumes being so distinctive, it seems like their will be a strong overall story and perhaps motif to what these characters will portray during the event! It will certainly be something to look forward to!

Title: 初音天地開闢神話 / Hatsune Tenchi Kaihyaku Shinwa (Hatsune Creation Myth)
Producer: cosMo@暴走P / cosMo@Bousou-P
The theme song for Magical Mirai 2021 will be composed by cosMo@Bousou-P, as was first announced back on April 28 during Snow Miku Time.
If the duo of cosMo@Bousou-P and Left sounds familiar, that’s because the pair has previously worked together as producer and illustrator for the PV for the very well known song, 初音ミクの激唱 / Hatsune Miku no Gekishou (The Intense Singing of Hatsune Miku). You can really hear the legacy from the producer’s past songs in the latest Magical Mirai theme song below!

Event Features
Here are some announcements about what Magical Mirai 2021 goers can look forward to at this year’s event!
Life-Size Statues
Just like each year, there will be a life-size statue of Miku in her new outfit designed for Magical Mirai. And she won be alone!
Just like with last year’s MEIKO feature and life-size statue at Magical Mirai 2020, this year we’ll finally see KAITO’s life-size statue at Magical Mirai! This means we’ll finally see the last fruits of the MK15th project and its massively successful crowdfunding campaign!
They will also be joined by life-sized pop-up displays of all of the piapro character in their Fairy-Tale Fantasy-themed outfits, monitor and illustration displays for the event theme song, and more for what is being called a “Flower Garden” exhibit at Magical Mirai 2021. One can only imagine how lovely they will all look!
piapro and CFM Exhibits
No Miku event is complete without a piapro wall for fans to freely write and draw on! It will also be joined by a “Song and Illustration Making” display as part of the piapro Exhibit.
What more, there will be a CFM Exhibit that will be displaying various content put out by Crypton Future Media themselves. Attendees should look forward to getting educated on the company behind Miku!
Messages to KAITO
Also as part of the KAITO 15th Anniversary feature at Magicl Mirai 2021, fans can express their love for the blue boy and/or wish him a happy birthday by posting their message for him n Twitter with the hashtag #KAITO展!
Select messages posted between August 5th and August 19th were even chosen to be displayed on a monitor at the KAITO feature area of the event grounds! Will people see yours there?
TextAlive App API Lecture
Attendees will also get to enjoy lectures about the lyrics video creation tool, TextAlive. You can get a taste for it by watching the TextAlive tutorial video on the official Hatsune Miku YouTube Channel (39ch) below.
In fact, fans can even get involved in the lecture by entering the Magical Mirai 2021 Programming Contest! This contest is being held now until September 30th, and is accepting entries in the form of lyric videos created for any of the above winning and runner-up songs from the Magical Mirai 2021 song contest!
Learn more about the programming contest on its official page here (Japanese).
Live Cheering Project
Just like past events, the Magical Mirai 2021 concert will feature fan-submitted background videos of people cheering for Miku and her friends in their “Live Cheering Project!”
Just submit a quick 4~5 second video of yourself and/or friends cheering the piapro characters on for the chance to see you videos shown during the concert!

Just for entering the Magical Mirai 2021’s exhibition halls, fans can get some free goodies!
Attendees will receive a pin badge shaped like emblems bearing the piapro characters’ signature colors of their choice! Note that each person can only get one badge per entry ticket.
Other Bits of Information
At this time, we do not see an announcement of the event being livestreamed.
In years past, the official Miku you-tube channel (found here.) has posted update videos and some promotional content (note: not the full concert.)
For those in Japan right now, or for those with plans to travel to Japan, remember to observe all public-safety measures regarding COVID-19 and to stay safe and have fun!
