Project “Skylight” Working Towards Global Solidarity in Response to Covid-19
This is naturally a time of great difficulty for people across the globe, and as we all deal with this continuing lack of certainty and reassurance, it’s nice to see how people are trying their best to make a positive difference in the world.
Project Skylight is one initiative doing just that: this is a project where people have gathered together, using the power of Vocaloid and other synths in order to bring solidarity among as many people as possible in these trying times.
As of writing, the group has created their own song, aptly named “Skylight”, with the original English version featuring the vocals of Hatsune Miku, Gumi, Meiko, Kaito, Miriam, LOLA, DEX and BIG AL. The song itself speaks of candles as a motif of peace, harmony and togetherness, especially in times of great sadness like now. This is why anyone who is interested in producing art for the project is encouraged to create something centered around the idea of candles and light against darkness, as a metaphor for hope.
But that’s certainly not all! As mentioned in the description of this collaborative piece, Project Skylight is done as a way to try and raise proceeds for the WHO’s Covid-19 Response Fund, an amicable cause which will allow them to continue to work on “leading and coordinating the global effort, supporting countries to prevent, detect, and respond to the pandemic” at hand.

They say that they’d like to have as many people as possible offering up translated lyrics in many languages, so that people across the world can enjoy this song, and therefore feel more united, rather than shunned away due to a language barrier.
As well as this, they say that they are happy for people to create their own Vocaloid or Utau covers of the song, or even remixes, allowing people to engage with something creative and meaningful at the same time. That way, even more people can become involved with the project! So far they have the song available in English, Spanish and Chinese, so feel free to listen to all of the versions and see what you think!
