RADIO MIKU Updates from Magical Mirai 2020 in Tokyo
Back in November, it was announced that Hatsune Miku will be appointed as the official image character for the CBC Radio‘s 70th Anniversary campaign! Watch the original announcement video below.
CBC Radio is Japan’s first ever commercial radio station that began broadcasting at exactly 6:30 am (JST) on September 1, 1951. That means September 1, 2021 will be their 70th anniversary! To celebrate, they will begin their 70th anniversary campaign starting in April 2021 with Miku as their official character!
Here’s what was announced in the trailer:
1. The main visual for the campaign will feature Miku in an original outfit to be revealed at Magical Mirai 2020 in Tokyo
2. Starting on January 1, 2021, a 10-minute long pre-campaign radio program called RADIO MIKU will begin airing every Monday through Friday at 9:30 pm (JST) on radiko!
3. Also starting on January 1, 2021 will be a new collaborative project with piapro
New Developments at Magical Mirai 2020 Tokyo
And it was at Magical Mirai 2020 Tokyo at Makuhari Messe that we were able get a firsthand look at CBC Radio’s booth!
Visitors to their booth could see the main visual piece by おぐち / Oguchi with Miku wearing accessories that are meant to resemble car parts. The indigo blue color of her outfit is also meant to match the textile color used in Arimatsu Narumi tie-dying, an age-old industry in Nagoya. The outfit motif is a fusion of various famous industries throughout the Tokai Region. We even got to see a Dollfie Dream doll wearing the outfit!
The pamphlet that we received at the booth also revealed some other bits of information:
・The main content of RADIO MIKU will be about Ai Shimizu – a 13-year fan of Miku – teaching the CBC announcer, Hatsune Saito – a complete Miku beginner (despite her name) – all about the virtual diva!
・The 30-minute special, “30分じゃ伝えきれない初音ミク / Sanjuppun ja Tsutaekirenai Hatsune Miku (The Hatsune Miku Whom We Can’t Fully Convey in 30 Minutes), will be re-aired on January 4, 2021 at 9:00 AM (JST), right before the episode of RADIO MIKU on that day!
・The piapro collaboration will be a contest for radiko banner illustrations and radio station jingles. The contest will run from January 4, 2021 all the way through late August with winners in each category being picked monthly!
Finally, also making its debut during Magical Mirai 2020 Tokyo was the official RADIO MIKU Twitter account! You can find and follow it here! They also encourage fans to tweet about them and the RADIO_MIKU program with the hashtag #らじみく
One of their recent tweets even show Ai Shimizu and Hatsune Saito introducing themselves and their new show together!
