Winning Entries
When the contest was first announced, there were to only be 3 winners: 1 Best Work winner, and 2 Excellence winners. However, the contest organizer, Saki Ohenri, said that they received so many wonderful entries that they decided to increase the amount of winners and prizes to be given out!
In the end, a total of 8 wonderful designs received prizes in the contest! Read on to see them all! You can also find the official Twitter thread announcing them here!
Best Work
The overall winning entry in the contest was submitted by ゆゆのすけ./ Yuyunosuke, and will be used as the package designs for Tsuina-chan’s Synthesizer V products!
This design was hand-picked by Ohenri himself, who praised it for not only being cute and eye-catching, but also retaining Eastern look that defines Tsuina-chan. He also praised how simple and easy-to-get the design is for fans and artists to reproduce in fan works. On top of that, two different outfits were submitted by the artist, making it easy to choose one for Tsuina-chan’s Synthesizer V Standard Version, and one for her Synthesizer V AI Version!
Congratulations to Yuyunosuke!
AHS Excellence Award
The next winning design was picked by AHS to receive an Excellence Award, and either a set of Tsuina-chan goods or her VOICEROID2 product!
The design was submitted by アジシオ / Azisio, an artist who is quite well known in VOICEROID fan circles! Their work was praised for portraying Tsuina-chan as very cute and lively, and also including Zenki and Goki waving glowsticks for her!
Congratulations to Azisio-sensei for another outstanding work!
Mai Kadowaki Excellence Award
The second entry to win an Excellence Award was chosen by Mai Kadowaki herself, and that honor goes to しろえ🦐 / Siroebi!
Kadowaki likes the near-futuristic stage vibe of this design, and how the color white is so prevalent, making for a brand new look for Tsuina-chan. She also found how the artist works Dickson into the design as a headset to be very creative, and how even her mic resembles an onusa, blending Tsuina-chan’s established identity as an exorcist with her new identity as an idol!
Congratulations to Siroebi for the recognition!
Feeling of Dynamism Award
Now we come to the awards that were added by the contest organizers due to the volume of quality entries that they received. Recipients of these awards will be given some Tsuina-chan goods for their winning artwork.
The first award is the Feeling of Dynamism Award for the best entry that gives off the sensation of movement in its design. The talented artist to receive this award is Polish illustrator, Nyś!
Ohenri stated how he was extremely happy to see entries from not just Japanese artists, but even artists from overseas. They especially like how this design captures the sense of Tsuina-chan as a hip-hop dancer, and can almost feel her saying “Hey yo!” They hope to see more illustrations and other works of Tsuina-chan portrayed in a more Western fashion like this in the future.
Well done Nyś for representing international fans in the contest!
Lovely Poster Award
The next award, the Lovely Poster Award, was given to the entry that the contest organizers feel would make for great promotional material for Tsuina-chan’s upcoming activities. This honor was awarded to 名名肆 / Nanashi!
This artist actually submitted mtultiple entries to this contest, some of which were even candidates for the Mai Kadowaki Excellence Award! In the end, they chose this design for it’s high level of quality and cuteness. It would indeed make for a lovely promotional live poster or album jacket illustration for the up and coming idol known as Tsuina-chan!
Congratulations to Nanashi!
Kouhaku Maruko Kobayashi Award
The title for this award is a reference to the Sachiko Kobayashi‘s famous appearance in the 2001 NHK’s Kouhaku Uta Gassen and the outlandish outfits that she wore on the show and which remain ingrained in people’s memories to this day.
Naturally, this award would be given to the contest entry with similar shock appeal and level of eccentricity. And no other artist besides microa could receive this award with their incredibly striking Tsuina-chan design!
Needless to say, this entry truly stood out from among all the others with not only its extravagant design, but also its sheer level of detail. Just one look at it and its concept art shows how much time and attention the artist paid to its most meticulous features, getting them to look exactly how they want in the final illustration. The result is an overwhelmingly impactful (and maybe also a little impractical) outfit for the new virtual idol to wear!
Congratulations to microa and their incredible imagination!
Tsuina-chan Meme Material Contest Award
Speaking of surprises, some fans may have noticed the hashtag #ついなちゃんネタコン floating around on Twitter. This hashtag is used for tweets with humorous illustrations of Tsuina-chan that serve as joke/meme material, which is what the term ネタ / Neta means in Japanese.
And since the term can also mean “sushi topping,” the artist フェリシィヴェント / Felicivent came up with an outfit that no doubt brought a smile to the faces of the contest organizers, earning them the Tsuina-chan Meme Material Contest Award!
The artist is a frequent uploader of humorous Tsuina-chan artwork, and an active participant in the above-mentioned “ネタ/neta” contest. Since this particular tweet also included the outfit design contest hashtag, #ついなちゃん衣装コン, that means it is meant to be an actual outfit for this contest. All joking aside, the contest organizers naturally had a good laugh about it, and Ohenri seriously mentioned that they would like to see someone create a MikuMikuDance model out of the outfit! Any MMD modelers out there interested in a job?
Congratulations to Felicivent!
Koufudaiji Temple Award
Tsuina-chan previously collaborated with Koufudaiji Temple, and the award named after it would go to the design that captures its image the best. And that design was provided by ぺるこ / Peruco!
This entry shows Tsuina-chan as a temple maiden with a lotus motif permeating around her. The artist describes her as a dancing and singing bodhisattva, a description that suits the ogre-hunting idol well! This design will even officially be adopted by Koufudai Temple as promotional material!
Congratulations to Peruco on both honors!
(Note: viewers of the livestream were shown the below image, which was also submitted by Peruco to the contest. But it was a mistake, and the winning entry is the one shown above)
Congratulations to all winners and participants in Tsuikon! Even if your design didn’t get an award, everyone’s love and enthusiasm for Tsuina-chan was strongly conveyed in each and every entry. We highly encourage everyone to do a search of the #ついなちゃん衣装コン hashtag on Twitter to see the works of all the other talented illustrators who took part in the contest!
We look forward to seeing how the designs will look on Tsuina-chan’s Synthesizer V products and more in the future!
