Project SEKAI Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku: Virtual Live Announcement Livestream Overview
Back on August 11, 2020, the official Twitter account for Project SEKAI Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku opened a mysterious countdown page. It appeared to be counting down to exactly 8:00 PM JST on August 24 with a teaser message saying “Rhythm games are going to the next Sekai,” and stating that some major new feature will be announced for the game.
Then it was revealed a week later that it will be through a new livestream with Yuki Nakashima, Daisuke Hirose, and Hinata Sato that the new major feature will be announced.
And now that it is August 24, the livestream has aired on the new Project SEKAI Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku YouTube channel!
Watch it below and read on for details on all the announcements!
Recent News Recap
The trio first recapped some recent news that was announced on Twitter.
First is the official release date for the game being set for September 30, 2020!
To celebrate, their official Twitter account is releasing a new illustration each day until release day! Below, you can see the ones drawn by BUZZ, たま / Tama, and nezuki. Be sure to tune in to their Twitter page every day at 12:00 pm (JST) to see a new one!
Finally, they recapped how the game is now 390,000 pre-registered players strong, and that the virtual singer outfits will be unlocked upon the game’s release!
Nakashima also hinted that the developers are considering adding another goal of 1,000,000 pre-registered players! What would the rewards be for such a monumental number? If it gets announced, we’ll report!
Virtual Live Feature
After the old announcements came the new one about the brand new feature known as Virtual Live!
Virtual Live is a totally unique feature that has never before been seen in a rhythm game. Project SEKAI will have in-game concerts every so often, and players can attend those concerts with others, fully in real-time, and cheer for the performers together!
Meetup Area
During the livestream, screenshots and playthroughs of Virtual Live were shown, which you can see some of below.
This screen gives us a look at how to enter Virtual Live events. From this screen, players can tap on the ticket for the show that they wish to attend, then either create or join a private room as they wait.
Once in the room, this is how it will look:
These rooms are being called meetup areas, because you don’t just wait with other players, but can interact with up to 14 of them! (A maximum of 15 players are allowed in each area) This is done by using your own avatar in the meetup area to chat with others, perform actions, and use stickers.
They also perfectly recreate the sense of being at a concert hall before the show, complete with the option of buying merchandise! Items that you can buy in the Virtual Live meetup area include clothing and accessories for your avatar to wear, glow sticks to use during the show, and even new actions that the avatars can perform!
Virtual Live Shows
Once the countdown timer in the upper-right corner of the screen approaches zero, then it’s almost time for the big show! That’s your cue to either hit the button next to it saying “入場” (enter) or head to the center of the meetup area where you will then be transferred to the concert venue.
Once inside, you can freely move your device around to look around the venue from first-person perspective! You can also reset your visual point at any time by hitting the leftmost of the three buttons in the upper-right corner.
Here are the full controls:
– Tap lower-right of screen: wave glow stick
– Swipe left side of screen: move around
– Swipe right side of screen: change your visual point
4 buttons along the bottom of the screen from left to right:
Change glow stick color; Use virtual item; Perform action; Use sticker
Then the show begins when the performer(s) themselves appear on stage!
During the show, by using the virtual item button mentioned above, your avatar can create all sorts of stage effects for the performance. When you and others do this enough, not only will you create quite the spectacle, but you’ll even unlock Jump Mode for all player avatars to jump up and down at outrageous heights as they enjoy the concert!
