Project SEKAI: Project Message Vol. 4
With only 15 days to go before the release of Project SEKAI Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku, the developers of the hotly anticipated mobile rhythm game have released another Project Message answers the questions and opinions shared by players of the Rehearsal Edit. demo.
The original message can be found here, and you can read on for an unofficial translation of it!
Greetings from the Project SEKAI development team.
The “Rehearsal Edit.” demo that we released earlier this month was played by far more people than we imagined, and we’ve received a lot of invaluable opinions about it.
Everyone’s individual feedback will be key to making Project SEKAI a better game in the future. Even after it’s release, we would appreciate any opinions and requests sent through the in-game “Support (サポート)” menu option.
In this Project Message, from among the feedback that we received about the demo’s playable Rhythm Game and Virtual Live portions, we will pick out and respond to those that we’ve recently decided to answer before release, and those that we originally planned on responding to now that game development is complete.
We will also be including some information that was previously announced for the sake of those who have just started following Project SEKAI after playing the demo.
Finally, in future updates, we will be considering how to respond to fan opinions and requests that have not yet been implemented in the final version of the game.
Judgement of Note Accuracy and Life Balance
We’ve received the most feedback about note accuracy judgement and the Life reduction rate both being too strict in the demo.
Through the two closed β tests, we’ve been steadily relaxing the judgement of note accuracy and Life balance. But now that many more people have been able to play the demo game, we’ve determined that there is still more room for improvement, and will be making the following adjustments:
▷ Getting a PERFECT on Tap notes will be 25% easier (there will be no change to the frame count needed to get a GREAT, so it will also be easier to chain combos)
The judgement of note accuracy for Tap notes in the demo was too strict for players of all skill levels, from beginner to super high-level players. By making this change, both beginners who just aim to clear songs, and super high-level players who aim to get AP (All Perfect) alike will enjoy playing more.
▷ The amount of Life lost from a MISS will be reduced by 20%
The Life balance system in the demo was especially severe for beginners and mid-level players who can only play on NORMAL or HARD. While keeping in mind the existence of members with powerful Life restoration skills, and how players can build entire units focused on Life restoration, we will further adjust the Life balance system when the game is released so that beginner and mid-level players can clear songs more easily.
▷ Judgement of accuracy for the release points of Long and Slide notes will be relaxed
A lot of players felt it difficult to grasp the proper timing for finger releases at the end of Long and Slide notes. Paying too much attention to timing and feeling you must release your fingers at a certain point would take away the sense of thrill from playing, so we decided to relax the degree of accuracy needed for getting a PERFECT or GREAT on these notes.
▷ Game performance will be improved
The improvements made to game performance will have positive effects on gameplay, but the problem of inaccurate Flicks due to frame rate drops in particular will be fixed. Those who played on iPhone 8 and other recommended devices have especially found gameplay more agreeable than before. That being said, there is still room for improvement on the game performance front. We will continue to make improvements so that more people can enjoy playing Project SEKAI.
The above are the main changes that we are making, but we intend to pay close attention to judgement of note accuracy and Life balance even after release, and make changes as needed.
Other Changes in the Rhythm Game Portion
▷ The official release will have more songs in it! (This includes songs originally sung by others virtual singers besides Hatsune Miku and the piapro characters) See our official site for more details.
▷ Players will have the option to show or hide member skills in order to focus on gameplay more.
▷ The “Adjust with taps” function (タップで調整機能) under the “Timing Adjustment (タイミング調整)” option will be changed so that it reacts when you tap your finger on the screen rather then when you release your finger.
Virtual Live
▷ You will be able to freely customize your avatar!
We are preparing unit specific Happi coats and various other outfits and accessories for the Virtual Shop, and will be adding them in the future.
※Certain avatar outfits and accessories can only be purchased with paid Crystals
▷ Players will be able to purchase various actions in the Virtual Shop that can be performed during a live concert, such as a backflip or drawing a heart with their glowsticks
▷ We will be adding character-unique items for all 26 members in the game that capture the look of their respective characters!
▷ When you tap on other players in the waiting room, you will be able to inspect their profile. In your profile, you can optionally display your Twitter account and connect with other players whom you’ve gotten to know through Virtual Lives on social media.
▷ During live shows, you can temporarily hide the UI.
▷ To avoid moments when you can’t see your favorite performer during the best performance scenes, the words that appear on screen during action times (such as Jump Time) will be made much less intrusive.
▷ The opera glasses function will be improved slightly so that you can zoom in closer on the performers.
▷ You will have the option to automatically perform actions during action times (such as Jump Time).
▷ You will have the option to turn gyroscope view ON or OFF.
▷ You will have the option to show or hide the virtual items, stickers or names of other players
Conclusion
So what do you think?
As mentioned at the beginning of this Project Message, for future updates, we will consider how to respond to player feedback and requests that will not be answered by the time of the game’s release.
For example, highly requested functions like being able to retry a live when your Life reaches 0, or muting players who repeatedly do things that annoy others during Virtual Lives, are under urgent development and will be implemented in the earliest possible update.
The release date of 9/30 is almost upon us.
On top of the Rhythm Game portion and Virtual Lives, we’re preparing lots of features and game content for the final release that players can look forward to.
By all means please send us your opinions through the game’s “Support (サポート)” system.
Thank you for your continued support of Project SEKAI!
We hope you enjoyed this final Project Message before the release on Project SEKAI on September 30, 2020! Were your questions or requests answered? Will the features that you hoped for get implemented?
Remember that the game will see continuous updates as time goes on, so don’t fret if you don’t see your requests mentioned above. Once the game is released, anyone will be able to continue sending feedback to the developers, which should absolutely be taken advantage of given how open the developers are to feedback!
See you when the game is finally released!
