Project SEKAI Costume Design Campaign Round 5 Results

We’ve waited long enough, and now we’re ready to find out the winners for Round 5 of the Project SEKAI costume design contests, with this time’s theme being of the swashbuckling variety! As well as announcing the overall winners (which will be implemented into the game later this year), the judges have also added “honourable mentions” – designs which deserve appreciation for their creativity! Scroll down to find out more.

Winner for the theme “Sea Pirate” – Women

Title of work:「パイレーツ・オブ・ペンギン」/ Pirates of Penguin
Design by いわき (@manken_iwaki)
Time it’ll be available in-game: July 2021

Judges comments:

The artist has created a pirate costume by making use of frills and adding a pirate hat, while the choice of orange and blue for the colour scheme and the fact that Miku’s legs and tummy area are showing makes this a design one which is perfect for summer, hence why it was chosen as a winner! You can still see the character’s toes, even while wearing the boots, which makes this a fashionable and cute pirate look!

Winner for the theme “Sea Pirate” – Men

Title of work:「Elegant Pirate」
Design by 不知丸 / Fuchimaru (@f_c_prsk)
Time it’ll be available in-game: July 2021

Judges comments:

With this simple pirate/captain costume design, such strength is conveyed through the musical components like the fortissimo (ff) notation on the hat, the piano keys and musical stave motifs, and in the end, the design was chosen due to the incredible attention to detail reflecting ProSEKA game elements [as well as the main theme]. A pirate who can command and control music would definitely enjoy having music on board [their ship] every night!

Other notable points from the artist:

  • The cravat he’s wearing looks kind of like a (clam) shell, and has a pearl gemstone in the centre.
  • He’s wearing a black glove only on his right hand.
  • The handle of the small sword/knife has an f clef as the handle.
  • The sword/knife has a leather scabbard with a fortissimo (ff) motif on it.
  • There’s a piano pattern along the cuffs of the jacket.
  • The sides of the trousers have a musical stave/staff running along them.
  • Has gold lamé on the left shoulder, with the fabric gradating from lighter to dark blue.
  • At the bottom of the blue gradation, there are coloured lines representing the different playing modes in Project SEKAI – EASY -> green, NORMAL -> blue/turquoise, HARD -> yellow, EXPERT -> red, MASTER -> purple (making it feel as if you’ve actually been able to master all of the difficulty levels… even if you haven’t really).
  • The strength and power of a sea pirate is emphasised with the addiition of the fortissimo (ff) motif on the hat.
  • The skull and music notes motif on the back of the coat gives off the idea of a pirate who’s “conquered/mastered” music (as opposed to the seven seas).
  • Around the waist: designed after the look of a piano cover cloth, with one thick and one thin belt. There are 8 gold tassles and a gold chain with an anchor on it.

不知丸 / Fuchimaru:

I’m so happy my design got chosen…!!!
Thank you so much

Honourable mentions – Women

These are costumes that won’t be added to the game, but that the contest judges felt deserve recognition and appreciation! We won’t be translating everything to do with the following designs for now, but at least you get to see them, and can possibly use them as a reference for what the judges are looking for in these contests.

Title of work:「パイレーツ・プレザント」/ Pirate’s Present
Design by 倉社 (@9mork)

Title of work:「ソルティ・ローズ」/ Salty Rose
Design by あさしら / Asashira (@aayf7g)

Honourable mentions – Men

Title of work:「メロディックパイレーツ」/ Melodic Pirate
Design by アザカ (@a_z_a_k_a)

Note: This is the artist who designed the “Berry Choco Pancake” design for girls in the first costume design contest!

Title of work:「voyage」
Design by しろ / Shiro (@blanc4110)

The winning designs (excluding honourable mentions) for “Sea Pirate” will be featured as items as part of the Premium Mission Pass throughout July 2021*! Artists whose work is featured in the game will also be added to the game credits, and receive a 3,000 yen Amazon gift voucher!

Example of what the Premium Mission Pass looks like in-game for reference:

*Please note that the Premium Mission Pass is a pay-to-access feature. It costs 1960 yen for the whole month, and gives you “paid” crystals (x1800) and Virtual Coins (x1800). To unlock the outfit for Premium Mission Pass, you’ll need to earn approximately 5000 Live Points before the end of the month. For other colourways of the featured outfit, you’ll need to earn 6000, 7000 and 8000 Live Points before the end of the given month.

And that’s it for round 5 of the costume design contests! But that doesn’t mean the series of competitions has finished – far from it! This month’s contest (with the theme of “animal(s))” is still going on, so we can’t wait to find out the winners for that in due course.

Congrats to the overall winners, the honourable mentions and to everyone who made the effort to go in for this costume design contest, and we look forward to bringing you more Project SEKAI news in the near future.
