Project SEKAI Costume Design Campaign Round 9 Announced
The theme for the ninth Costume Design Contest from Project SEKAI has been announced at the start of this month, and if you have an eye for fashion, art, or both, then this could be your chance to shine!
To have the opportunity for your own costume design to be featured in-game, check out all the relevant sections below!
※The following translations are unofficial
Details of the competition
- Submission dates: from June 1st until June 30th 2021 at 17:00 JST
- Theme: ゴシック / “A design based around the theme of “gothic””
- Characters allowed: any of the unit characters in Project SEKAI are allowed to act as a “model” for your outfit design.
- Number of winners: 2 (one design for the male characters based on the theme, and one design for the female characters based on the themes).
Winners will…
- Have their design added to the game as part of the Premium Mission Pass* in November
- Win an Amazon giftcard worth ¥3000 JPY
- Have their name featured in the game credits
*Please note that the Premium Mission Pass is a pay-to-access feature. It costs 1960 yen for the whole month, and gives you “paid” crystals (x1800) and Virtual Coins (x1800). To unlock the outfit for Premium Mission Pass, you’ll need to earn at least 25 Live Points* before the end of the month. For other colourways of the featured outfit, you’ll need to earn 6000, 7000 and 8000 Live Points before the end of the given month.
*It was announced in Wondershow Channel #7 (April) that it would be made easier to acquire the first colourway in the Premium Mission Pass every month! So now, instead of having to earn 5000 points for the first one, you only need 25.
- Amount of submissions allowed: one entrant can enter as many times as they like, but only one entry can be chosen to win at the end of the competition overall.
- If you’d like to make multiple entries, please post them as separate tweets, each with the appropriate tags (see below).
- Tags: whatever tags you use, make sure to include both the 「#プロセカ衣装デザイン」 and 「#ゴシック」 tags when you post to Twitter, otherwise your entry won’t be counted.
- Please make sure to include your Twitter handle somewhere in the image, or your entry won’t count (to prove that it’s YOUR design and it wasn’t taken from someone else).
- Please specify the title of your outfit design, either on the art itself or in the text of the tweet as you post it.
- Your entry must NOT have been published anywhere else or entered into any other previous competitions.
- Copyright belongs to the illustrator, but the organiser is in charge of management of the design.
- Anything posted after the entry deadline will NOT be eligible for participation.
- Anyone under 18 years old needs to get a parent/guardian’s permission before entering this competition.
- If you are selected to win, all following correspondence will be in Japanese. Hence why you will most probably need to have a reasonable knowledge of the language if you decide to enter the competition (and trust me when I say that navigating Japanese email conversations is no easy feat!)
Other illustration notes
- You can format your submission however you want, but you need to include views of your design from the front, back and side.
- Please indicate whether your design is for men or women somewhere in the design.
- Please do not include any designs for hairstyles in your entry, since these outfits are intended to be worn by multiple characters.
- Hair ornaments, however, are perfectly acceptable, so long as they are placed above the ears.
- Your work may have to be edited somewhat prior to being used in-game, because certain aspects might not be able to be implemented with 3D modelling, so please keep this in mind.
It can be tricky to think of an idea for outfits in these types of contests, but if you’re still nervous about joining in – don’t fret! We’ve covered all the winners from previous contests, including judges’ commentary in our Project SEKAI Costume Design Campaign series, so check them out to get some pointers for how to make your own entry:

>>Round 2 winners (Mysterious Thief)
>>Round 3 winners (Magic)
>>Round 4 winners (Restaurant)
>>Round 5 winners (Sea Pirate)

Is the end date actually June 30th or did you mean July?
Hiya! Apologies for the late reply to your question, and thank you for your comment!
Each Project SEKAI Costume Design Contest lasts one month, so will start at the beginning of the particular month and end on the last day of the same month. Round 9 of the contests was between June 1st and June 30th 2021 as shown above, and results have been announced this month (July)! If you’re planning on entering any current/future contests, we still have round 10 ongoing, with the theme of “checkered pattern”. We’ll be uploading an article about this one later today, just in case there are any fans wanting to send in a last minute submission too (as well as publishing one on the results of round 9)!
Thanks again, and hope this cleared things up for you!
